It’s been a beautiful weekend. I was able to walk the beach with the sun on my face and waves rolling in. It felt invigorating. Such a delight to be outside after all the rain. I even got to hang my sheets out to dry yesterday. I just love line-dried sheets.

For our monthly peak into the human energy system we’re taking a look at the Throat Chakra, known as Vishuddha in Sanskrit. It’s the fifth chakra in the chakra system. Positioned at the base of the throat, this chakra is associated with communication, self-expression, truth, and creativity. The Archetype is the Oracle, aka communicator, teacher, mentor, or musician, the negative expression is the silent child

Here are some key aspects of what the Throat Chakra does:

  • Facilitates Communication: The Throat Chakra is central to your ability to communicate effectively, articulate your thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and speak your truth with clarity and confidence.
  • Enhances Self-Expression: It governs self-expression through verbal communication and other forms of expression such as writing, singing, and artistic creativity. A balanced Throat Chakra allows for the free flow of expression in all its forms.
  • Promotes Honesty and Truth: This chakra is linked to honesty, integrity, and living authentically. It encourages speaking the truth while simultaneously being true to oneself.
  • Supports Active Listening: Besides facilitating speaking, the Throat Chakra also enhances the ability to listen deeply and understand others’ communications, fostering healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Encourages Creativity: A balanced throat chakra nurtures creativity and innovation by enabling the expression of thoughts and feelings, allowing for the birth of new ideas and artistic expressions.
  • Aids in Emotional Release: It helps in expressing and releasing emotions in a healthy manner, preventing the suppression of feelings that can lead to physical and emotional issues.
  • Supports Thyroid Function: Energetically, the Throat Chakra is connected to the physical health of the throat area, including the thyroid gland, vocal cords, mouth, jaw, and neck. A balanced chakra can contribute to the overall well-being of these areas.

When the Throat Chakra is balanced, we experience clear communication, creative fulfillment, and a strong sense of our authentic selves. Conversely, imbalances in the Throat Chakra can lead to difficulties in expressing thoughts, fear of judgment or criticism, throat ailments, and other communication barriers. Practices like mindful speech, singing, chanting, and throat chakra meditations can help balance and activate Vishuddha, enhancing its positive qualities.

Try chanting the bija (seed) mantra “HAM” to help stimulate and open this chakra. Singing, humming, and chanting are also beneficial, encouraging energy flow through the throat area.

Given the importance of communication in all aspects of our lives, from self-talk, to expressing ourselves accurately weaving in some chanting or humming can be highly beneficial.

Is this something you will try ?
