Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents By: Isabel Wilkerson
This one was recommended by Tani (one of my readers here) it’s also an Oprah book club selection. I am loving this book, it’s is eye-opening in so many ways and gives framework and language to race issues in America. The stories thoroughly engage and educate. I still have a few chapters to go but did not want to wait until next month. This is not only a great read but an important piece of work in our time.
Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life with the Heart of a Buddha By: Tara Brach
This is an older book that I have been slowly reading and will re-read. The gentle reminders to return to yourself and find your own peace are timeless. This book is good for my soul, it helped me slow down and notice what was present in the moment and how I was in relationship with it. I love the feeling of being more fully connected with who I am.
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
This sci-fi time travel story was a little slow to start but was thought-provoking as it explored parallel universes, which may have contributed to the slow start as I read at night before bed and it was a bit to wrap my head around. The social structure was a little too plausible for comfort but was an integral part of the story . The main character visits different Earths and begins to see how she interacts with the people in her life is similar, yet very different. Then everything changes when she breaks a cardinal rule of time travel.
